FAQ

Managing a Giving Fund doesn't need to be a challenge. We're here to answer your questions.

  • The initial gift to open a CFR Giving Fund is a minimum of $1,000. The minimum grant is $250; there is no maximum. If you fall below a $1,000 balance after grants have been made, any amount remaining is still earning interest and the Giving Fund will remain open, no matter how much.

  • Gifts must be on deposit with Christian Financial Resources a minimum of 10 business days (allowing for funds to have cleared our bank) before grants may be recommended.

  • It’s simple. CFR will provide a login to our donor portal allowing you to search for your charities and request grants. You can even maintain a list of favorite ministries. Grants can be made in your name or anonymously if you choose. Gifts can be made as frequently as bi-monthly.

  • The minimum grant is $250 so that we can keep our account administration fee-free and limit payment processing fees (many of which are fee-free). To account for monthly sponsorships for children or missionaries, we recommend that you front-load your giving either quarterly or annually instead of monthly. You can still make a grant of $250 or more to the mailing address of the charity and in the "grant purpose" section, include the beneficiary's name, account number, and ID number. This way, the charity knows who to apply it to.

  • Giving Funds are not qualified for transfers from QCDs or IRAs per IRS rules.

  • You can name your fund as you desire. Some choose to use their family name(s) Giving Fund. For example, The Smith Family Giving Fund.

  • Only if you prefer. A letter of instruction accompanies CFR’s check explaining whom the grant is from and what it is for. However, you also have the option of remaining anonymous. Just specify this during the grant recommendation process that you wish to remain anonymous. This is also stated in the letter from CFR.

  • You must make grants to valid non-profit 501(c)3 organizations and Christian ministries. This includes your local church, missionary organizations, and other Christian-based ministries. The Board of Directors acknowledges that Christians have historically understood that the claims of Christ compel them to undertake a broad range of charitable and educational endeavors as well as direct Christian ministry.

It is our passion to implement all recommended charitable giving as long as it is not contrary to traditional Christian values, current policies and beliefs of CFR, or current guidelines of the IRS. CFR will not authorize grants of charitable funds to advance activities that the staff or the Board of Directors of CFR deems antithetical to our statement of faith, even though such purposes may be legitimate for tax-deductible donations.

  • You may designate others to be involved in making future recommendations from your fund.

  • A letter is sent for each contribution, which can also be accessed online. At the end of the year, you'll receive a statement of all contributions for that tax year.

  • “I love the simple method of increasing generosity with Christian Financial Resources. As a business owner and Mountain Christian Church member, I discovered an easy way to bless our church and other non-profits and significantly save on taxes. My wife and I opened a Donor-Advised Fund in the 4th quarter of 2022. We transferred appreciated Apple stock to our CFR donor-advised fund. As a result, we paid no tax on the 300% increased stock value allowing us to double our end of year donations. Win win.”

  • "Ultimately, we want our money to grow so that we have funding for our future and for our children, and if we can achieve that while helping other organizations spread the love and hope of Jesus, that is even better. CFR has visited our church in the past, but this time I’m really feeling God’s calling to reach out and see how best to manage this blessing that God has bestowed us."

    -Meghan K.

  • "I recently graduated from college and started working, so I am not making a lot of money, but I want to lay the groundwork to living a generous life and think this could be a powerful way to facilitate that."
